English Flintlock 75 Caliber Rifled Fusil by Howell and Simmons
Made by Howell and Simmons of Birmingham, England circa 1810. Gun has 30" rifled steel barrel in 75 caliber with rifle front and rear sights and hook breech with floral engraved tang and "Starburst" engraving in front of rear sight with muzzle having provision for socket bayonet. Case hardened floral engraved "Howell and Simmons" marked flint lock with single set trigger control and safety latch. Figured walnut checkered one piece half stock with smooth steel buttplate and floral engraved loop trigger guard with "Pineapple" finial and silver escutcheon behind tang for touch hole pick with horn Nose cap. Comes with period brass tipped hardwood ramrod. Interesting gun for hunting or Military Officer use. CALIBER/GA: 75 caliber. S/N: NSN. FFL: Antique.
Condition
Barrel retains traces of original browning with light oxidation. Lock has traces of case with trigger guard showing a worn brown silvery patina. Dark varnish finish still remains with noticeable checkering and some usage marks and dings. Dark pitted bore with traces of rifling. Good mechanics.
