English George V Silver Royal Presentation Cup
Henry Hodson Plante (English, active 1908-1970), 1919. Sterling silver in the George II taste. Bucket form, double spurred handles, the body engraved to one side with the British Royal arms, the reverse, "Royal East Berks Agricultural Association/Presented by/King George V/to the tenant Farmer of/The Best Cultivated Farm/1922." Maker's marks to the upper body with London hallmarks for 1919; the underside "H. H. Plante/Bury Street/St. James S.W." Approx., h. 7", w. 5.75"; 25.89 ozt. Note: A cup by this maker with a lid was presented to H.M. The Queen on the occasion of her christening and is in the Royal Collection.
