English School - The Lady weaving with a cherub (in the manner of Gabriel Dante Rossetti)

[ translate ]

\Artist: English School
Technique: Pastel\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 120_90_4_cm
A quite magnificent , very large and rare Mid -Victorian English School Pre-Raphaelite pastel painting on paper . This piece is absolutely stunning. The quality of the artist work is quite sublime, and there is an abundance of detail in the both the figures, the landscape , the flowers and the fauna. When we came across this work we were very excited. There are pastels of this quality , but to find such a large work of this theme in the English School is extremely rare, and the artist who created this painting had an extremely fine hand. The frame is original . The idea that the artist had for somehow binding the lady to the child-cherub so gently with the spinning thread is quite magical. The child has such an angelic look ; but also somewhat child-like look of curiosity and playfulness. We could look at the painting everyday and never tire of it. We will offer a certificate of authenticity with the pastel painting . When we acquired the painting from a Private English collection, we removed the original glass for fear that shipping could damage potentially the work and due to it's extremely brittle nature. We have had the painting re-mounted within the original frame; but have retained the original backing board, as there is virtually no evidence of any paper deterioration or spotting whatever and we assumed that the acidity within the board must be relatively low. The work has been resealed from the verso with an acid- free paper tape, and we have fitted a non-reflective anti-UV synthetic glass to help conservation of this beautiful work of art. The glass does slightly reduce clarity when one is immediately in front of the painting, but from normal standing distance it has good clarity. The buyer can of course change this to museum glass if so preferred, but for shipping we decided this was the safest compromise and in our opinion , the glazing does not detract from the art. Please note the shipping costs reflect due to the size and weight of the painting.
