Oil painting on panel, 30 x 25. 5 cm, by Abraham Cooper (1787-1868) , a painter elected academician of the Royal Academy in 1820, specialising in battles and scenes with animals, most often horses. The scene depicted in the painting is typical of the author’s production: a peasant girl hands some fodder to a draft horse while a farmer, sitting on a stone at the entrance to the stable, smokes a pipe. Cooper's paintings are on display in major American and English museums. The painting is in excellent condition and has recently been cleaned as part of a purely conservative restoration. Beautiful coeval gilded frame. Painting without frame: 30 x 25. 5 cm. With frame: 43 x 38 cm.
