PROPERTY FROM A ROYAL COLLECTION
A group of pottery tiles, Persia and Spain, 19th Century
comprising three Qajar underglaze-painted tiles, a Qajar 'famille rose' tile; and a cuenca pottery tile
the largest 21 x 21 cm.(5)
Provenance
Property from a Royal Collection.

The present lot features a cuenca tile, which differs from its Qajar counterparts in the technique employed for separating the colours in the design. Following the Cuenca technique, colours are prevented from bleeding into one another during firing by raised, moulded borders. An example of a 16th Century cuenca tile is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Acc. No. 184-1853.

Important Notice to Buyers
Some countries e.g., the US, prohibit or restrict the purchase by its citizens (wherever located) and/or the import of certain types of Iranian-origin works. As a convenience to buyers, Bonhams has marked with the symbol R all lots of Iranian (Persian) origin. It is each buyer's responsibility to ensure that they do not bid or import a lot in contravention of the sanctions or trade embargoes that apply to them.
