Enzo Cangi was born in Pieve Santo Stefano, in the province of Arezzo, in 1938 and passed away in Florence in 1974.
His artistic training took place first at the Art Institute of Florence and subsequently at the Academy of Fine Arts of the same city under the guidance of Primo Conti.
Enzo Cangi's research has stood out above all in the development of a brushstroke that was born as post-impressionistic but which ends up charging the depicted objects with existential vibrations. In this sense, a sure reference model will have been Giorgio Morandi, as we can imagine from the rich production of still lifes of pottery and bottles. In Cangi's paintings there is also a profound rational sense of composition, reduced to a minimum and lucidly calculated, which certainly harks back to Ottone Rosai. The sparse brushstrokes, in addition to constructing the objects, identify their shadows through very rough hatching. In this way the whole composition is full of its own vibrant vitality, perceptible, in particular, in the quivering foliage of the trees and in the weeds at the edges of the pavement.
