Erich Oehme - Meissen - White porcelain figurine lying donkey from 1942 model R215 - Porcelain

Very beautiful and rare white porcelain figurine of a lying donkey from Meissen based on a design by Erich Oehme (see below) . It was made in 1942 and is signed and dated below. The donkey is approximately 7cm high and 14cm long and is in good condition (no chips, no cracks, no restorations) with signs of age and use. Weight about 180g. Erich Oehme (1889-1970) From 1905 to 1908, Erich Oehme studied with the Dresden sculptor Friedrich Burghardt. From 1911 to 1912 he initially worked for the Nymphenburg Porcelain Manufactory. From 1912 Erich Oehme worked for the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. At the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, he rose from assistant modeller to artistic director of the design department (1936) . In 1944 he was relieved of his post. In 1948 he became artistic director of VVB Keramik Erfurt. Porcelain sculptures based on designs by Oehme were also produced by the Volkstedt and Lichte porcelain manufacturers. Oehme is best known for his expressive animal sculptures.
