Provenance: With Rayner MacConnal, London.; Private Collection, UK. Note: The present work resonates with Crofts’ oeuvre as one of the many historical and military scenes which he produced. The unbroken line of soldiers entering from afar creates a powerful sense of the imminent approach of the Cavalier forces, with this sense of dynamism reinforced by the white pigment suggesting the first horse’s condensed breath.
