Favourite motif of Cézanne, Renoir, Granet, Kandisky, Picasso A painter of landscapes, still lifes, pastelist and impressionist, he was most probably a pupil of Horace Aumont (1839-1864) . Medal winner at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris. He was subsequently ranked out of competition at the Universal Exhibitions of 1890 and 1900. During his lifetime, he was adored by the greatest artists of his generation such as Vincent Van Gogh who spoke in glowing terms of his "magnificent roses".
