Ernest Tino Trova, Missouri (1927-2009), Fall Triptych

[ translate ]

Ernest Tino Trova
Missouri, (1927-2009)
Fall Triptych, circa 1962
Acrylic and pencil on canvas in three parts
framed.

Fall Triptych, included in Trova’s first exhibition of Falling Man paintings at the H. Balaban Carp Gallery in 1963, is a significant early example of the artist’s iconic Falling Man in its key developmental phase. The painting finds Trova’s signature image at the cusp of its final form, differentiated by more abbreviated and exaggerated features than the silhouette that would be standardized shortly thereafter. Among a small group of highly literal early works illustrating the Falling Man in the act of falling, Fall Triptych captures Trova’s indelible image at the moment of invention.
