Ernst Fuchs (1930-2015) - Tanz mit dem Tod

Ernst FUCHS, born February 13, 1930 in Vienna, died November 9, 2015 in the same place; painter, graphic artist and sculptor. Studied from 1946-50 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under R. C. Andersen and A. P. Gütersloh, was a member of the Art Club from 1948 and one of the founders of the artist association "Hundsgruppe" in 1950. In 1959 he was a member of the "Pintorarium" with F. Hundertwasser and A. Rainer. One of the main representatives of the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. Fuchs' drawing and painting skills are based on works from the past, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. His paintings and graphics, executed with masterly detail, display strong religious and mythological symbolism. Around 1978, a new phase of his work began, characterized by the use of bright colors, simpler compositions and sometimes exaggerated figures from ancient and Germanic mythology (Lohengrin, Icarus and others) .
