Chalk drawing on brownish paper 33.3 x 44.2 cm Signed and dated 'E L Kirchner 05' in pencil lower right (predating, typical for the artist). - Small defect in lower margin professionally closed.
“Together with Nelly and Sam, the black acrobat Milly belonged to the ensemble of the Schumann circus. Kirchner invited her to his studio at Berlinerstraße 80, where he drew, painted (Gordon 187, 1911) and photographed her (Roland Scotti, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Das fotografische Werk, Davos 2005, No. 12). Numerous drawings were also created in the studio of Erich Heckel” (Gerd Presler).
