Ernst Röhm – gold cigarette case for his 44th birthday 1931, with the signatures of the party leaders

Beschreibung: Gold and diamonds. Rectangular form with cambered edge, the exterior with partially smooth and partially vertically or horizontally fluted ornaments, the lid applied with a silver set, diamond studded swastika. The interior with engraved dedication (tr.) "For the SA Chief of Staff Ernst Röhm on 28th November 1931" and twenty signatures, among them Adolf Wagner, Heinrich Himmler, Franz von Epp, Fritz Sauckel, Emil Maurice, Rudolf Heß, Jakob Grimminger, Gregor Straßer, Alfred Rosenberg, Robert Ley, Joseph Goebbels, Hermann Göring, Hans Schemm or Viktor Lutze. Hallmark "585" and Austrian gold mark after 1925. Dimensions 10.7 x 8.3 cm, weight 146.11 g. Ernst Röhm (1887-1934) returned to Germany in November 1930 after spending two years in Bolivia as a military advisor, and was introduced by Hitler as new Chief of Staff of the SA during the SA leadership conference. When Röhm took over the position, the SA consisted of 80,000 members, and he was able to expand this number to 300,000 within a year. In spite of rumours regarding his homosexuality, Ernst Röhm was at the height of his power in 1931/32, and pursued his goal to turn the SA into an independent militia which was to replace the Reichswehr.
