Escuela castellana - Saint, Sculpture, 55 cm - Wood - 16th century
CASTILLIAN SCHOOL, 16th CENTURY Santo Carved and polychromed wood 55 x 20 x 12 cm PRESERVATION CONDITION: overall good. It has small polychrome restorations and some flaws. The most significant is in the left hand that seems to hold something that it no longer has. DESCRIPTION: male figure in profile dressed in a robe and cloak. The bald head and the bushy beard indicate a mature character. The back is cut "cutlet" style, smooth and unworked, to attach to a niche or altarpiece. Elements of mannerist influence. ICONOGRAPHY: It is quite possible that the character's identifying attribute was the object that he was holding in his left hand. If it were a sword it would be Saint Paul, keys would be Saint Peter, and a knife Saint Bartholomew. SCHOOL: by technique and polychrome, its time, 16th century and its Spanish origin, is unmistakable. Among its stylistic features there are many mannerist elements, which determine the Castilian school, specifically the Valladolid one. For any further clarification and for more photographs, do not hesitate to contact us. Perfect packaging is guaranteed. Professional shipping with tracking code.
