Émile Gallé born in Nancy on May 4, 1846 and died in the same city on September 23, 1904.
This French master glassmaker is an industrialist, who is also a cabinetmaker and ceramist.
A child of art and commerce, he is one of the most significant figures in the applied arts of his time and one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau.
In 1867 he joined the management of the family glassworks and represented his father at the Universal Exhibition. His approach is not simply theoretical because he is not afraid to take an interest in blowing. He will be the creator and president of the Nancy school (the most prestigious of all) with members: Victor Prouvé, Louis Majorelle and Antonin Daum.
