Pair of genre paintings: The Discovered Lover; The Involuntary Shot

Jeurat's genre paintings in the manner of David Teniers were exceedingly popular. He is even sometimes referred to as the French Teniers. He became a member of the Royal Academy in 1733 and was made guardian of the Royal Painting Collection at Versailles in 1767. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes in the Louvre for the first time in 1737 and continued to do so until shortly before his death at the age of 90.
The present pair of paintings were attributed to Jeurat by Cabinet Millet, Paris.
