[ translate ]

František Kupka
1871-1957
Étude pour "Printemps Cosmique I"

signed Kupka (lower right)
gouache and pastel on paper
24 by 24.9cm., 9 3/8 by 9 3/4 in.
Framed: 60 by 60cm., 23 5/8 by 23 5/8 in.
Executed in 1911-20.

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by Pierre Brullé.

Condition Report:
Executed on cream wove paper, not laid down, attached to the mount at all four corners, and floating in the overmount. The right edge is slightly uneven and the upper right corner is slightly curved (inherent to the sheet at the time of execution), and there is a minor crease running along the right part of the extreme upper edge. There is a small accretion (very likely a studio accretion) to the centre of the lower left quadrant. This work is in overall very good condition.

Provenance:
Galerie Louis Carré & Cie, Paris

Jeffrey Hoffeld & Co., New York

Royal Marks Gallery, New York

Royal S. Marks Collection, New York (sold by his estate: Sotheby's, London, 1st December 1993, lot 210)
