Presented in an elaborate oak-leaf- and acorn-carved frame with exhibition plaque number 380.

Literature: Explication des Ouvrages de Peinture, Sculpture, Architecture, Gravure, et Lithographie... Paris: Imprimerie Paul DuPont, 1897, p. 36, no. 380.
Condition Report: Canvas exhibits signs of professional restoration- canvas has been cleaned and relined on new stretchers with compression springs. Previous to being relined, there are two, possibly three, well done old repairs with corresponding inpainting- repair(s) to the cloak of the woman holding the fish, and one to the lower right corner between the man's legs. There is a sticky/ varnish-like residue that flouoresces as a horizontal line under UV light in the lower left quadrant. There is scattered inpainting throughout, with the most significant work done around the repairs and to the sky. Please see additional photographs. Canvas exhibits some light buckling in the lower right and upper left quadrants. There is some abrading around original edges of canvas along relined stretcher edges. Surface is clean with some very faint craquelure. In overall very good restored condition. Frame is original, with original exhibition no. entry affixed at top. Frame is very heavy and exhibits some small scattered losses, nicks and scratches to edges. Condition is as to be expected with age, material and use.
