Born in 1908, Eugene Leliepvre experienced the exodus of the Great War and as a child attended the French cavalry charge of the cobbled streets of Lille: there he decided his vocation, military historian. Official Painter of the Army since 1951, Knight of the Legion of Honour in 1998, specialized in uniforms of the old regime, he continues to paint in his studio in Montrouge.
Equestrian painter Eugene Leliepvre is also known for hunting and animal paintings. He also created numerous dioramas for the Maritime Museum of Paris and fashioned (assisted by his wife) over 300 small mannequins in costumes and equipment of yesteryear. Canada's share of this collection earned him, in 2008, the highest award in North America: "The Star Service Award to distinguished Military Historians of the Company". Dimensions:
