Eugenio Lucas Villaamil (Madrid, 1858 -1919) was a Spanish painter, knight of the order of Carlos III Some works that have been attributed to Goya actually belong to Lucas Villaamil. Biography Son of the painter Eugenio Lucas Velázquez and Francisca Villaamil, he began his artistic training in his father's workshop and continued his studies at the Escuela Especial de Pintura of Madrid. He took part at the Exposiciones Nacionales de Bellas Artes with the works Italianas and Mendigo. His paintings maintain the influence of the characteristics of those of his father, with the repetition of Goyesque themes, solved with great compositional ability and joy of colour. He also copied various themes from the Aragonese painter, as can be seen in his works Entrada a los toros, Sol de 1885 or Salida de los toros, Lluvia de 1885, works set in that traditional Madrid, with majas and chisperos, of great picturesqueness and popular flavour. His work En el palco stands out in this thematic line, in which he brings together different resources rehearsed by his father in some of his canvases. In addition to the bullfighting themes, numerous paintings of "Casacones" such as Baile en palacio (1894) or El mago en palacio (1894) , in which overburdened palatial environments of Rococo style are represented. He was a skilled copyist of some of Goya's paintings, which are kept at the Prado, and he was protected by the well-known collector José Lázaro Galdiano. He had a truly versatile style and he was indisputably creative. He also executed portraits, such as the children's group of García de Palencia brothers. His taste for urban scenes, both of the high and low society, is a constant in his work, as can be seen in Llegada al teatro en una noche de baile de máscaras (1895) , where Villaamil represents with Parisian air the attendees to a ball of masks who are entering through the door of a monumental theatre. In addition to applying all his skill in the handling of light with his reflections and contrasts, he demonstrated his mastery in the treatment of masses of people in motion. However, despite his enormous capacity to work, he never managed to enter the great public and official artistic circles of his time. His father's name always kept him in the shadows. The work of this master is represented in the best museums, to give an example, at the Prado Museum where he has more than 40 works. The frame only costed 1800 euros. It will be given away by the gallery and will not be subject to any claim
