Beautiful 18th century hand-colored copper engraving by the French engraver Paul-André Basset (1759-1839) with the title "Vue de Malta". View from Valletta towards St. Angelo. The positions of the towns of Vittoriosa and Senglea are reversed, but Fort Ricasoli is in the correct position. The caption describes the landscape as an amphitheater, the exact word used by the Abbé de St. Non in his "Voyage Pittoresque du Royaume" published in 1781.

ATTENTION: The engraving is generally in good condition, but the engraving has been cut off tightly at the edge in the past and a small part of the text is missing at the bottom left (see photo details) . The engraving was in a broken old frame without the text visible. Original passepartout will be included.
