European Bronze Age Electrum Hair Coil Earrings (pr)

Europe, Bronze Age, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. A dazzling pair of earrings formed from electrum hair coils that have been set with modern gold-plated hooks to be wearable. Made to decorate the coiffure of a wealthy Roman woman, each hair coil displays a spiraling form with thick, petaloid finials that taper to a slender tube at the center. Size without hook (both the same): 0.6" W (1.5 cm); Size with hook: 1.5" L (3.8 cm); metal quality: 55.5% gold, 43% silver; total weight: 10.7 grams
