Ex voto (Grace received) - Oil on the table - 1858
Ex-voto or Grace Received, dated 1858, oil painting on wooden panel. It consists (see subject) in an offer made by a man to the Virgin Mary with Child Jesus in her arms, as a tribute for a fulfilled prayer (drowning) . A typical devotional item, commonly used in Italy as a sign of gratitude, after an alleged miracle. It was usually commissioned to local painters and depicting the gesture or miracle itself. Many of these items can be found in churches, sanctuaries, chapels and on the side of the road. I think it is in good condition and it measures approx. 53x37 cm
