[ translate ]

Wonderful sphere quartz in polished petrified wood - 11. 69 × 11. 69 × 36. 7 cm - 2,200 g Madagascar - Polished by hand and smooth surface Very large solid sphere in petrified wood with natural crystals that take you back in time. It is a fossil wood dating back 200 million years, all parts from a log or branches have been silicified, meaning that organic components were little by little replaced by silicon in the form of jasper, chalcedony and more rarely opal. Without the organic parts, all the living matter was replaced by stone : there are growth rings, cell separations, almost like worm cracks. Its features are those of the mineral that would have pseudo-transformed the wood : the silicon. And that’s what we call a "petrified wood" in the common language. Petrified wood, wood opal or silicified wood is, as the name implies, wood petrified by chalcedony. This variety of quartz is actually fossilized wood and in some cases it may contain opal traces as the wood opal name reveals.
