Exclusive fan - Jean-Pierre Duvelleroy (1802-1889) - with certificate - Tortoiseshell, Lace - circa 1890

Jean-Pierre Duvelleroy (1802-1889) , fan maker. Signed. Extremely rare and refined Art Nouveau fan in the shape of a balloon, folded with fourteen sticks in blond tortoise with a decoration called "Piqué" of blue stones, the leaf in needlepoint lace, with gold threads embroidered with gilt sequins representing a floral composition, the rim is in brass inlaid with blue stone. A unique and truly exceptional piece, entirely handmade of great rarity, in its original box. In excellent preserved condition given its fragility, signs of age and some unstitching and fraying. The house of Duvelleroy, born from the dream of putting the fan back into the hands of women. A sumptuous ball given by the Duchess of Berry will grant all the wishes of the designer: a dance revives the fashion of the fan, and launches the house. It won numerous medals at the World Fairs. The second generation met a modern artistic movement with which it was at one with: Art Nouveau. Among the artists working for her, Gendrot, Leloir, Gicar and Louise Abbéma have been really faithful. Supplier of Queens, starting with Queen Victoria, the Empress of Austria, the Queen of Sweden, the Queen of the Denmark and the Queen of Bulgaria. The House also made the fan of Eugenie de Montijo for her marriage with Napoleon III, and the fan in white ostrich feathers worn by the Queen of Egypt during her honeymoon in 1938.
