Ezequiel "Zeke" Hernandez (b. 1940), Turkeys Crossing Road, oil on canvas, 14 x 18", frame: 18 x 22"

Ezequiel Hernandez, known in the art circles as Zeke, was born in San Antonio in 1940. Starting at the age of 6, as a boy he was in a Chicago hospital when the artist fever struck him. He received a present which included what was to be his first art kit. From this point on, he was hooked on art and stayed with it for the rest of his life. That introduction lead to the study of art as he attend various art schools including some time at the Chicago Art Institute and the La Villita School of Art. His biggest contribution to the art world came during the Western Art Shows in San Antonio during the Rodeo Events. His style of landscapes that mainly included the cactus paintings of the Southern Texas regions created his mark. He also studied in Mexico and has contributed to the Mexican flavor of pueblos, donkey carts, and other various cultural dwellings and items of old Mexico. During his many participations in the Western Art Shows, it was stated in the San Antonio Light that his painting was picked as the number 1 best list during his 19 years of involvement. Zeke has continued his talent as an artist in San Antonio and his paintings are on display at Hildebrand Art Gallery. Dimensions:
