being the first eight bars of the più animato section of Magyar dallok no.7, S.242/7,notated hastily in dark brown ink on two hand-drawn staves, with autograph heading ("Friska (Hongroise)"), signed boldly below the quotation, 8 bars in all,
overall size c.17.5 x 25.5cm, mounted on thin card, dated Paris, 12 October 1842, tear, affecting signature and music, repaired on verso with translucent adhesive tape, browning, a few small marks

The eleven pieces of Liszt's Magyar dallok ('Hungarian National Melodies'), S.242, were composed in 1839-1840 and published in four volumes from 1840 onwards. The seventh item, an Andante Cantabile in E flat, formed the second volume, published in Vienna in 1840 and in a second edition in Paris in 1842. A later version of this piece, composed between 1846 and 1853, was published in Vienna in 1853 as no.4 of the Ungarische Rhapsodien, S.244.
