Catalogue Note:
When François-Paul Journe introduced the Octa collection in 2001, his ambition was to create a single automatic movement architecture capable of accommodating an extraordinary variety of complications without altering its fundamental dimensions. Conceived around a calibre measuring just 5.7 mm in thickness, the Octa became a remarkable exercise in mechanical ingenuity, allowing Journe to develop an entire family of watches while preserving their elegant proportions. The Automatique Lune, introduced in 2007, brought a more classical arrangement to the collection, with hours and minutes positioned around the perimeter of the dial. Its second generation, known as the AL2, further refined the design with enlarged displays and a more substantial crown.

Yet it is the extraordinary Havana dial, introduced in 2016, that gives the present watch its unmistakable character. Developed by Les Cadraniers de Genève through months of experimentation with gold and ruthenium, its distinctive tobacco-brown colour required considerable refinement to achieve the desired depth and warmth. Depending on the light, the dial shifts between rich chocolate and golden copper tones, beautifully echoed by the pink gold case. The result is an almost autumnal palette, lending the familiar architecture of the Octa an entirely different personality.

Beneath this remarkable dial beats Journe's automatic calibre 1300.3, with its characteristic five-day power reserve. Its winding system was refined following Journe's observation that a friend's Octa was not winding sufficiently because he spent much of his day seated at a computer. This inspired a more efficient mechanism, capable of harnessing even the slightest wrist movements. Accompanied by its full set of original accessories, the present example offers a particularly appealing interpretation of the Octa Automatique Lune, combining mechanical ingenuity with the warmth and individuality of the Havana dial.
