FAMILIARE DEL BOCCATI | MADONNA AND CHILD

[ translate ]

FAMILIARE DEL BOCCATI
Active in Lucca, circa 1460 - 1480
MADONNA AND CHILD

oil on panel
22½ by 16½ in.; 57.2 by 41.9 cm.

Condition Report:
The following condition report has been provided by Karen Thomas of Thomas Art Conservation LLC., 336 West 37th Street, Suite 830, New York, NY 10018, 212-564-4024, info@thomasartconservation.com, an independent restorer who is not an employee of Sotheby's.

This picture presents nicely despite overall wear. The painting appears to be coated with a layer of dust and grime, and mild cupping following the craquelure is found throughout. Retouching, which is not noticeable under normal light, has been applied to knit together abrasion and solidify the modeling. Contours of some facial features have been reinforced. The only noticeable discrete loss is a narrow area that extends from the left side of the Madonna's chest into her forearm. The wood panel has been set into a new frame and backed with two wood boards.

"This lot is offered for sale subject to Sotheby's Conditions of Business, which are available on request and printed in Sotheby's sale catalogues. The independent reports contained in this document are provided for prospective bidders' information only and without warranty by Sotheby's or the Seller."
