FEDERAL PERIOD WALLPAPER COVERED BANDBOX
Circa 1830s Wallpaper Covered Chipboard Hatbox, with block printed decoration in greys, blue, and brown on a yellowish-cream ground, lid depicting a theatrical scene with three figures and a dog, base with repeating images of cherubs suspending a crown above a woman (possibly the Virgin Mary) petting a lamb, with a single string loop handle to one side, unmarked, 11 1/8" high, 16 7/8" x 13 1/4". Surface wear and soiling, edge tears and losses, stitched repairs to lid and base rims.
This box was discovered in the same attic, and it has the same lid edge decoration as the bandbox (Lot 1062) with the Henry Cushing & Co., Providence (RI) label, so it is likely also by this maker.
