FEMALE FIGURE - Grasslands, Cameroon - Bamileke First half of the 20th century. Wood, light, crusty patina. Dimensions: 88 cm. Whether a status symbol or a royal ancestor figure, this female figure wears a large beaded necklace; her left hand rests on her stomach, and her right hand hangs at her side. Her face displays characteristic Bamileke features: large, bulging eyes; pronounced brow ridges; a slightly parted mouth revealing carved teeth; and highly stylized, protruding ears shaped like half-circles. Condition: Part of the left foot is missing; there is a small chip on the heel and on the front left side of the right foot; and there is a crack on the torso. Expert: Coryse Mwape Internal Ref.: 281
