First edition of the first atlas published by Nicolas De Fer, produced shortly after he became the official geographer to the French Dauphin. The maps are based on an atlas published by Tassin in 1634, Cartes generales et particulieres de toutes les costes de France, and include many additions and revisions to toponyms and decorative features. Pastoureau, Fer VIIIA.

2 parts in one volume, quarto (247 x 189mm). Double-page engraved pictorial title, engraved divisional title, 2 folding plates and 30 double-page engraved coastal charts mounted on guards (minor marginal tear in each folding plate). Contemporary speckled calf, spine gilt (joints skilfully repaired, one corner bumped, lightly rubbed and stained). Provenance: Comte Charles de Furstemberg (gift inscription dated 1695) – early shelfmark inscription.
