LOT NOTES
This work will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné in preparation by Antoine Laurentin.

Ferdinand du Puigaudeau was trained at the renowned artist colony of Pont-Aven in 1886 with fellow artist Paul Gauguin. There, one of his paintings was purchased by Edgar Degas, who would later become one of his closest friends. The present lot is a beautifully traditional example of the French Impressionist painters colorful depictions of sunsets, for which he is well-known. This work features a Menhir, a sort of prehistoric monument, which lends a unique flair to the painting. Today, Ferdinand Du Puigaudeau works are held in the collections of the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and the Muse des Beaux-Arts de Quimper in France, among others.

CONDITION
Observed in frame, the work appears in overall good original condition. Scattered chips in the center right of the sky and along lower left edge. Paint splatter to the right of the rock formation. Limited areas of crauqluere apparent in places. Inspection under UV light shows four areas of retouching along the upper edge in the sky, the largest 14 cm (5 1/2 in.) long.

N.B. All lots are sold in as-is condition at the time of sale.
