FERNANDO LLANOS "The Virgin with the Child"

[ translate ]

He is a key figure together with Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, with whom he is frequently related, in the introduction of the Renaissance of Leonardesque influence in Valencian lands. The painter's stay in Florence as a disciple of Leonardo da Vinci in 1505, working with him in the Battle of Anghiari, is documented. On his return from Italy, he painted the doors of the main altarpiece in the Cathedral of Valencia with Yáñez, putting into practice the innovations known in Italy. Later, in 1516, he was in Murcia, where he made the table of The Marriage of the Virgin (Murcia Cathedral). The present work, of a devotional nature as highlighted by the golden background, presents an iconography frequently used by Valencian painters of the time and which has its origin in the Flemish world. At least two paintings with the same iconography have been assigned by Gómez Ferchina to Llanos in recent years, one in the Félix Palacios Collection in Zaragoza (oil on board, 54.5 x 40 cm) and the other in a private Valencian collection (see Gómez Ferchina, J., "Los Hernandos", Ars Hispánica, 2011 pages 119-120), presenting both stylistic and compositional similarities. Attached is a report by D. José Gómez Frechina, who presented the work, signed in 2018 .Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 37.1 x 52 cm
