FILIPPO PALIZZI | NOAH'S ARK

[ translate ]

Property of a Gentleman
FILIPPO PALIZZI
Italian
1818 - 1899
NOAH'S ARK

signed Filip. Palazzi and dated 67' (lower left)
oil on canvas
41 by 59½ in.
104.5 by 150.5 cm

Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:

Not examined out of the frame. This work is generally in very good condition. The canvas has an Italian lining, which is nicely stabilizing the paint layer. The painting is clean and varnished. There is no abrasion to the paint layer, and many details within the composition are clearly very well preserved. In the foreground, a few retouches have been added in the lower left to the left of the ostriches, addressing some thinness in the dark color. There are some retouches around and above the male lion also in the lower left. There are a few spots of retouching in the boar and the hyenas beneath the lion. There is a restored break in the lower right, measuring about 6 or 7 inches, which runs into the hind legs of the white horse and the hind legs of the light colored cow. Although some of the artist's original color reads strongly in the rocky outcrop in the center, the only other retouches in the darker colors are beneath the ark in the upper right. In the sky, there are small dots of retouching on the right side. There are a few spots around the flock of birds in the upper center. There are retouches on the extreme upper left edge and in the upper left corner. The work should be hung as is.
