FINE CHINESE CARVED GILT WOOD FAMILY SCREEN, C. 1850. Comprising a large, impressive and scarce carved, polychrome and gilt wood folding screen narrating the story of the Bing Quan Liu family. Consisting of six individual hinged pierced carved panels (screens) each resting on ornately carved bracket feet, and the base of each with a relief carved and polychrome panel depicting various scenes of domestic life, beneath large pierced carved lattice work incorporating various texts relating to the story of the Bing Quan Liu family as well as characters identifying the period of emperor Daoguang (1821-1850), and the year of his reign (24th jia-chen) 1844. Each panel 68 inches x 15.5 inches (173cm x 39.5cm). and overall when open 93 inches wide (236cm).
