FIRST YEAR PRODUCTION 44-40 MODEL 92 WINCHESTER

RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF. S# 16113 (1892). Factory records indicate about 23,000 model '92's were produced during their first year. This early rifle has 24-3/8" round barrel fitted with correct buckhorn rear and Beech folding front sights. Winchester markings are on top and caliber is at rear. Magazine tube is full length. Typical action is marked "MODEL 1892" "WINCHESTER" and with patent info on top tang. Hammer checkering is of early dipped style. American walnut buttstock measures 13" over crescent steel buttplate; fore stock is held by steel tip. CONDITION: good. All metal presenting smooth brown patina overall. Traces of blue remain on loading gate and bolt. Some case hardening is visible on lever. Stocks appear original with over varnish that has many subsequent marks and some areas worn through. Bore is fine to very fine; shiny with strong rifling throughout; with some minor pits toward muzzle. Mechanically smooth. (01-30250/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
