FIVE LEATHER BOOK BINDINGS AND A GILT AND TOOLED FLAP SECTION Iran and Ottoman Turkey, 18th and 19th centuries, one dated 1255 AH (1839 - 1840 AD) Comprising a finely tooled tanned morocco leather binding, of rectangular shape, the front and back enhanced with a central rectangular panel with Timurid style cusped cartouches filled with roses, saz leaves, interlocking vegetal meanders, split palmettes, stylised lotus flower scrolls, and arabesques, surrounded by three concentric friezes of nasta'liq script poetry on the uplifting nature and value of good calligraphy, scrolling split palmette trellis, and lush palmette scrolls, the lower left corner of the calligraphic frieze dated 1255 AH (1839 - 1840 AD), 27.5cm x 18.3cm; a red morocco leather binding with three gilt cusped cartouches on each side filled with floral motifs and arabesques, 30.2cm x 19.2cm; three rectangular leather book holders, of various colours and size, two gilt, and one tooled with Westernised fretwork bands, the largest 25.5cm x 16.5cm; and a flap fragment of a gilt, blue-painted, and tooled brown morocco leather binding with lobed cartouches filled with rumi motif, 23cm x 7cm.Click here to share:
