This large horn is featured on pages 192 and 193 of "Accouterments II" by James R. Johnston. The tapered curved body measures 17-1/2" overall. It is inscribed "THE PROPERTY OF / JOHN LOVRIEN" in large block letters. The cone shaped spout section is decorated with circular holes. The fully engraved main body is decorated with engraved designs including vines with berries, a flag featuring a chicken eagle and 13 stars, a man carrying a detailed flintlock rifle and a dead fox, birds, an owl perched in a tree, a buck, folky flowers, and a dog. The convex wooden plug has an integral carved wooden knob for strap attachment. CONDITION: Excellent overall, showing no damage and very little use. Retains a dry surface with a light honey patina.
