FOLLOWER OF GASPAR PIETER VERBRUGGEN
Still life of a garland of flowers around a sculpted urn

oil on canvas
54.1 by 40.1cm.; 21¼by 15 3/4in.

Condition Report:
The canvas is lined, the paint surface is dirty and the varnish is discoloured and dulled. These is evidence of bitumenisation in large, open craquelure in the background, notably along all four margins, and particularly in the upper right corner. Retouching is also visible in these areas. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals confirms this retouching but also reveals the old, thick, varnish which fluoresces opaquely, making it difficult to discern further intervention. The painting is in overall fair condition.
