FOUR DAMASCUS AND IZNIK POTTERY TILE FRAGMENTS
Ottoman Syria and Ottoman Turkey, late 16th - early 17th century
Comprising two fragments of Damascus pottery tiles, of triangular shape, both underglaze-painted in cobalt blue, green, turquoise and black, each with two halves of a floral arabesque, displaying a central stellar design, radiating carnations, rosettes, and lobed medallions filled with floral sprays, one slightly larger 25.5cm x 26cm, the latter 25cm x 25cm; and two fragments of Iznik pottery tiles, one of triangular shape, painted in cobalt blue and turquoise, with black outlines on white ground, decorated with a lobed medallion filled with interlocking split palmette sprays, with parts of a rosette and lotus flower to the sides, 25.5cm long, and the latter of rectangular shape, painted in cobalt blue, turquoise, Armenian bole red, green and black outlines on white ground, with two large stylised tulip stems with long lush leaves, 15.5cm x 11cm.
