FRAGMENT OF A TAPESTRY BORDER
Renaissance, Bruxelles, probably from the workshop of François Geubels, ca. 1560.
Depiction of a woman with a palm frond, with a dragon below. In an architectural frame.
60 x 150 cm.
Colors somewhat faded. Restorations.
This border also shows a great similarity with the borders of the series on Romolus and Remus by François Geubels. The woman with the palm frond could represent an Allegory, which would fit the Romolus and Remus series. It is likewise possible that the figure depicts Saint Catherine or Saint Margaret (dragon).
