A view of the park at Oatlands, near Weybridge, Surrey
inscribed 'A View taken from Oatlands the seat of his Grace the Duke of/ Newcastle/ January the 22nd. 1782 settled with Michael Sanders Esq. this picture/ the size to be 3 foot 8 inches by 2 foot 8 inches to have twenty five guineas for it' (verso) and with inscription '184 BP' (verso, under the mount)
pencil, pen and grey ink, grey wash on paper with a Strasbourg Lily watermark
103⁄4 x 147⁄8 in. (27.3 x 37.8 cm.)

The artist, by whom bequeathed to James White of Exeter.
John Herman Merivale (B.P. 184), and by descent to
Maria Sophia Merivale and Judith Ann Merivale, by whom sold to
Squire Gallery, London, 1933, where purchased by
James Byam Shaw, and by descent to his widow
Christina Byam Shaw, by whom bequeathed to the present owner.
