FRANÇOIS-XAVIER LALANNE
"MOUTON DE LAINE"

designed circa 1965, executed 2000
executed by Landowski Fondeur, France
patinated bronze, wool
monogrammed FxL, impressed LALANNE/Landowski Fondeur, dated 2000 and numbered 10; the underside monogrammed FxL
36 x 37½ x 21¼ in. (91.4 x 95.2 x 53.9 cm)

Condition Report:
Overall in good condition. One of François-Xavier Lalanne’s most recognizable designs, this mouton presents with a rich patinated bronze structure supported by four small wheels under the feet in working condition and the original wool surface in very good condition which coats the mouton’s body. The bronze surface presents with light scratches throughout that are inherent to the casting and not visually distracting. The nose, ears, and legs present with some scattered and occasional areas of minor discoloration to the patina consistent with age, which add superb bronze hues to the surface. The main body retains its original wool and presents with a full and supple surface with off-white to light beige hues. The area around the head presents with some minor traces of dried adhesive residue within the wool consistent with age. The head very slightly pivots onto itself at an approximate 10-degree angle. Typically more rare and desirable than their epoxy stone relatives, this “Mouton de Laine” provides a rare opportunity for Lalanne and contemporary design collectors to acquire a recent model in remarkable condition.
