FRANÇOIS-XAVIER LALANNE
"TORTUE"

1973
number 49 from an edition of 100
produced by Artcurial, Paris
copper
monogrammed FxL, numbered 49/100 and dated 73
5¾ x 10¼ x 7 in. (14.6 x 26 x 17.7 cm)

Condition Report:
Overall in good condition. This very rare and early model displays a slightly less saturated color when compared with the catalogue photography. The piece, which can be used as a lidded box, comprises a slightly convex base on which rests the turtle’s shell and body. The copper surface displays a rich and bright surface when seen in person, and presents with minor surface irregularities inherent to production. The copper also presents with light surface scratches and occasional, scattered darkening to the surface, as well as very light oxidation and tarnish concentrated to the recessed areas, the edges and the base, not visually distracting and consistent with age.

In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
