FREDERICK JUDD WAUGH (NJ/MA, 1861-1940)
"East Coast, Monhegan", oil on linen canvas, signed lower right, titled on frame tag, housed in the original gilt matched corner hand carved frame, OS: 31" x 42", SS: 24 1/2" x 35 1/2". Fine condition.Waugh was born in Bordentown, NJ, son of a well-known Philadelphia portrait painter, Samuel Waugh. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Art with Eakins, and at Academie Julien in Paris, with Bouguereau. He remained in Paris until 1908, when he returned to the US, to live in Montclair, NJ. In later years, he lived on Bailey Island, Maine, and in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
