FREDERICK WILLIAM MACMONNIES | PAN OF ROHALLION

[ translate ]

Property of a Lady
FREDERICK WILLIAM MACMONNIES
1863 - 1937
PAN OF ROHALLION

inscribed Frederick MacMonnies / Copyright 1894 Paris 1890. / H. Rouard. Fondeur (on the reverse)
bronze with brown patina
height: 30 inches (76.2 cm)

Condition Report:
The above piece is in overall good to very good condition in both appearance and structural stability. The brown patina presents as healthy and even with only slight areas of verdigris within the hair, sash, and at the lettering on the base of the sculpture. There is currently a protective coating on the surface, likely wax, which appears to be holding up nicely.

The two clarion have recently been reattached within the mouth and hands of the figure, but these should be noted as replacements and not original to the piece as they have been signed presumably by the restorer "Boris." While the clarion are well fabricated, they contain details such as finger holes that are not present on the original clarion and not in keeping with the artist's original form. This work is plumbed to be a working fountain and the piping appears healthy as confirmed with a compressed air test.

This report was prepared by Tatti Art Conservation Inc., New York.

Provenance:
Eric Silver Works of Art, New York

Acquired by the present owner from the above, 1991
