FRENCH MILITARY OIL PAINTING AFTER THEODORE GERICAULT

[ translate ]

A Modern oil painting on canvas after the original oil painting on canvas, The Charging Chasseur, or An Officer of the Imperial Horse Guards Charging, ca. 1812 by the French painter Theodore Gericault, portraying a mounted Napoleonic cavalry officer who is ready to attack. The painting was Gericaults first exhibited work and it is an example of his attempt to condense both movement and structure in his art. It represents French romanticism and has a motif similar to Jacques-Louis Davids Napoleon Crossing the Alps, but non classical characteristics of the picture include its dramatic diagonal arrangement and vigorous paint handling. Stamped with a characters seal, on the backside. Jean Louis Andre Theodore Gericault, 1791 to 1824, was a French painter and lithographer, whose best known painting is The Raft of the Medusa. He was one of the pioneers of the Romantic movement. One of a kind artwork.

Dimensions: Canvas 39 1/2 x 27 in. Painting 37 1/4 x 25 in. All measurements are approximate.
Condition Report: Overall good vintage condition. Signs of age and wear. Refer to photos. Sold As Is.
