FRENCH MODEL 1816 FOOT ARTILLERY SHORT SWORD
Model 1816 French Artillery Short sword made by Klingenthal. Cast brass hilt with fish scale grip and raised relief eagle on both sides of the pommel. The markings are light but the ricasso is etched Klingenthal on one side, and the markings on the other side are indiscernible. The fullered blade is 19" has mostly smooth patina. This model sword was the inspiration for the U.S. Model 1833 Artillery short sword. The leather scabbard is contemporary copy of the original. 24 1/2", Very Good
