FRENCH VICTORIAN PEASANT COTTON BEDSPREAD - Cotton - Late 19th century

This is what I would call a " peasant like" bedspread without wishing or wanting to be derogatory. ! It is in fact very simple, but at the same time interesting as it would have been the forerunner of the later 20th C crochet bedcovers. It was purely knitted to cover either the eiderdown or blankets. It is small because the sleigh beds ( and for 2 persons in those days) were a mere 90cm wide by often only 1m80 long. It is made up with different designs which are repeated throughout and has a large end piece. The sides are deep, scalloped and are slightly gathered. You could almost describe it as a museum piece. A interesting piece.
